Shackle -Free

I’s a been wantn to read for I’s a can vote

Massa says we’s not smart for voting

Keepn us down, tryna be up fors the children

Freedom aint free, see these shakles

A change a gon come dis I’s a know

This book will a show us the way

Knowledge is beginning to form

In this dorm we will adorn all forms

Traveling beckons only the weakened

The strong shall prevail, nevermind the massa’s intention

From the ship to the house, this book is true

No clue, no truth, all lies, see the spies

Recognizing the lies, here is the clue, watch the spies

Jump aboard my people, we have arrived

The shores had no idea of the power trampling along its surface

Hand held high, books in our pockets, shout

Believe only what is proven and disengage unnatural rights

Our ancestor’s faith will forever be instilled in this voice

Lingo, slang, incorrect, remember that the only thing they were allowed to do was be slaved

Speak correctly; nows I’s a know whens the road stops, it rises

Kay massa, follow the drinking gourd, yessah massah

Intellectuals will align for the struggle and better mankind

The people have spoken; the rest will forever hold their peace

But that piece of mankind will forever reside on that side

Of the mountain shall I say, replay the past but no need

History will continue to show how we've overcome

We will continue to overcome…….

Outside I think......

I'm just cooling outside and what do I see? I see a flock of birds sitting on the roof top across the way gathering their thoughts. It's as if they are assembling for the upcoming election to nominate the competitors. Next a owner and his dog walk by which catches the attention of another dog within his prison like confinement. Territorial and quick to jump at the chance to show who has the bigger bowling balls. The sky is marveling at its own physique and who am I to knock its hustle. Future hall of famers? Two young kids come out of the breeze way carrying two concealed weapons which resemble the shape of basketballs. A relief of hard work echoes with each bounce of the balls off of the pavement. Father-daughter relationship is being admired as the two pace back and forth, up and down the sidewalk. Suddenly a motorbike roars by erupting the silence into madness. Parallel parked vehicles shine in place of the missing sun and the wax is oh so shiny. Outside I think.......

Preview of L.A.S.T.

Gerald did not want to face reality but it was sitting just outside of the bathroom door. As the water sprinkled from the shower head, his body seemed to bob and weave as if it was defending itself from the drops. If only he had deleted that Twitter account, none of this would be happening. It all began when he gave in to the social network movement that seems to be taking over the world. Everyone on campus was chattering about how fly it is to be able to interact and follow one another almost at the speed of light. So why not give in to the trend. After his last class on Friday, Gerald ran into Maximus a.k.a. Max and Carlos, his Hispanic compadre. The three of them met at freshman orientation and had managed to land a small apartment together. Max was excited that he had a date with a senior sorority chick that he met on Twitter. Gerald and Carlos laughed because they did not believe him, being that they were still in their first year. Max pulled out his phone and showed the guys a direct message from a beautiful young lady. He smirked and walked away. Carlos chased after Max but Gerald remained frozen in one spot. Thoughts of blind dates and faster migration of the female species consumed his mind. "Should I take advantage of this technological advancement?"

Flawed Perfection

Believing in something is okay but not believing in something makes you an outcast or an alien. People tend to forget that it all began on a belief. Creation of a perfect being gone wrong is my interpretation of the event. Gone wrong may not be the best words to use but flaws before perfection is. Every person has a flaw or two or maybe even more than that but believing in your flaw is actually an act of perfecting. Think of it like this, no one likes to accept their flaw/s because accepting one could result in revealing a weakness. We truly believe that accepting a flaw is a weakness! "Belief gone wrong," so why not believe in nothing and become an outcast? Alienation is self inflicted when an individual doesn't accept their flaw, which makes it  impossible to believe. Anything is possible, right? This takes us back to the beginning of this post; believe in something or hover off to outer space and join your fellow aliens.

Quiet Girl by: Langston Hughes

I would liken you

To a night without stars

Were it not for your eyes.

I would liken you

To a sleep without dreams

Were it not for your songs.

The piece above did not interest me at first but once I read it a few times it moved me to remix it. Langston Hughes is my favorite poet because he has a way of making his words jump up off of the page and dance like they've just been released from slavery. I'm beginning to read as if I'm learning for the first time and can actually visualize every letter as if their heart beats are pounding my pupils from left to right. Below is my version of "Quiet Girl" by Langston Hughes, enjoy!

Let me show you the universe

Where the galaxies leave you star struck

Just close your eyes my dear

Let me show you the universe

Where dreams come true

And dreams sing songs of you

Hard out here for a spider

Hard work pays off, a thought that is deeply rooted in the mind of a spider. As he rose for his overtime shift, Levi began to think of his past night. He managed to construct one of the worlds most beautiful web. It's symmetry was beyond asymmetric and had an amazing shine coming off of its surface. Nearby, the lady spiders were infatuated with his masterpiece. The men were men, intoxicated with jealousy. Gravity took a break as he dived from end to end. Without gravity, the jealous men seemed to float with envious thoughts of destroying Levi's web. A whistle blows announcing that it was lunchtime. Lunchtime consists of motionless prey watching with a hint of execution. Silence graces the work floor as a group of fruit flies hovers above their location. Levi has set his sight on this one particular fly. He's muscular with wings the size of a petal on a rose. The fly continues to hover in a circular motion which gives Levi the opportunity to break down the fly's next couple of moves. Patience is the key and Levi is demonstrating this with valor. The time is now; Levi leaps for the fly and manages to lock his legs around his body. Hanging from the web, Levi sinks his fangs into the fly to paralyze it. Slowly Levi pulls himself and the fly back up onto the web and begins to bundle the fly up along the web. A second whistle blows announcing the end of lunch. As everyone starts back working on their web, they notice that Levi has a huge bundle placed upon his web. Everyone is ecstatic except, but of course, the men. The men gathered to discuss a way of removing the bundle so that Levi would become embarrassed in the million eyes of the women. The plan was intact and the men were ready to execute. The workers finished out their shifts and everyone clocked out and left to seek shelter for the day. The men had their opportunity to snatch the bundle and leave Levi in an embarrassed state. They rushed the web and started to remove the web from around the giant fruit fly. While all of the spiders were concentrating on the web, one of them noticed a giant shadow. The shadow got nearer and nearer and in the next instance the shadow moves through the web destroying its beautiful shape and the spiders on it. Levi blinked his eyes to help forget about that past night and began to head to work. As he got closer to the job site he noticed that spiders were standing around his location. Once he was near he realized that there wasn't anything there anymore. His beautiful web was destroyed and his bundle was nowhere to be found. All of that hard work for nothing continues to sting in his mind. He approaches a night watch-spider and asks what happened. The spider replies by saying that a creature came and destroyed the web and a group of his fellow workers, all men.
